Change Expert

Who is Shelby Blackley?

I thrive in a world of change. Whether it’s a new innovative idea, a world-flipping phenomenon or just a new role, I will always find a way to get the most out of a challenging environment. That’s how I’ll help you, too.

I first became aware of the importance of data in when I was Editor-in-Chief of The Cord, Wilfrid Laurier University’s student newspaper. That led immediately to a job with The Globe and Mail as its first full-time newsroom SEO specialist.

While at The Globe, I pioneered SEO-first thinking, using open-source data to drive editorial and business decisions.

Later, as The Globe’s Audience Engagement Editor, I launched Amplify, a newsletter that focuses on the voices, opinions and insights of women. The newsletter had tremendous reach and garnered 10,000 subscribers in its first six months, but more importantly, it developed a community that thrives to this day.

After leaving The Globe, I continued my work in the analytics and SEO fields as a freelancer for many small- to medium-sized businesses, helping them make sense of the intricacies that are so important to their digital success and build their communities.

You need data and analytics to help drive your decisions. You need to know whether what you’re doing is working. I help make sense of the numbers that may seem foreign or mundane in ways that help you find success and build community.

I have a plethora of skills, such as knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and basic JavaScript. I also have certificates in Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, Google Analytics and Google AdWords.

And when I’m not thinking about engaged time or bounce rates, I am a personal trainer and a certified nutritionist. I run virtual bootcamps three times a week and help clients become the healthiest, most successful versions of themselves.
